West Olympia Texaco clerk hits assailant in head with broom handle

Staff writerSeptember 30, 2013

An intoxicated 32-year-old man messed with the wrong store clerk at the Texaco in the 2000 block of Harrison Avenue early Sunday morning.

According to court papers, the suspect started hitting the clerk with a broom handle when he entered the store about 2:50 a.m. and refused to leave.

But the clerk took his own broom handle and struck the suspect in the head, court papers state.

A customer also entered the store during the fight and helped throw out the suspect.

The suspect had a cut to his head when Olympia police arrived and placed him under arrest. He was booked at the Thurston County Jail Sunday on suspicion of third-degree assault.
