An apparently intoxicated Centralia man allegedly stole a bicycle from the top story of an apartment complex early Wednesday morning and attempted to ride it down a flight of stairs. Instead, he crashed head-first into a wall at the bottom, according to police.

Centralia police responded to the reported theft at 1:06 a.m. Wednesday on the 300 block of Centralia College Boulevard and found the 63-year-old suspected bike thief at the bottom of the stairs under the damaged bicycle.

It appears the man attempted to bike down a long flight of stairs in an attempt to flee the area, according to police. The suspect was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

He was cited for third-degree theft, according to police. The bicycle was returned to its owner.
