Judge’s bias can’t be tolerated

It took disciplinary action by the Washington Judicial Conduct Commission, but Thurston County Superior Court Judge Gary Tabor is now doing the right thing: not performing weddings for anybody.

Earlier this year, Tabor announced he would discriminate against same-sex couples and only perform weddings for heterosexual partners. The commission sanctioned Tabor for violation of the state law that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation.

In an added benefit, the commission’s admonishment now provides guidance for other state judges who might have been tempted to follow Tabor’s approach.
