NW Christian sweeps races at league XC meet; other Thursday highlights

Northwest Christian swept the boys and girls team titles at the Pacific 2B League cross country championships, behind first-place finishes from Luke Schilter (15 minutes, 26 seconds) in the boys 2.95-mile race and Anna Brooks (18:32) in the girls race.

The top 10 finishes in the boys race were Northwest Christian runners, while the NWC girls occupied the top three placings, and five of the top nine.


-- Northwest Christian wrapped up the Pacific 2B League title and a No. 1 seed into the 2B District IV tournament after its 25-16, 25-16, 20-25, 25-16 win over Willapa Valley with one regular-season game remaining. The Navigators (11-2 overall, 11-0 league) earn a first-round bye into the District IV tournament, and play their first district match at home at 7 p.m. Nov. 5.

-- Moriah Kramer had 18 assists and Jensyn McCoy had 16 digs in Black Hills’ 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-11) sweep of River Ridge in 2A EvCo volleyball action.

-- Katie Sisson had a match-high 15 kills and a perfect 10 for 10 serving in North Thurston’s 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-14) sweep of Mount Tahoma to remain second place in 3A Narrows League volleyball standings.

-- Olympia remains in second place in the 4A Narrows League volleyball standings after its 3-0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-17 sweep) of Yelm, getting seven kills and seven blocks from Hannah St. Jean and 21 digs from Jona Spiller.

-- Capital swept W.F. West 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-11) behind Rachel Erickson’s 11 kills and Kaysee Wohl’s eight kills and three blocks.

Girls swimming

Capital’s Madeline Hoffman won the 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly and also swam in the Cougars’ winning 400 free and 200 medley relays in the Cougars’ four-way meet with Tumwater, Black Hills and River Ridge. Capital defeated Black Hills, 118-48 and River Ridge, 128-35, and Tumwater topped Capital, 97-86. The T-Birds’ Jocelyn Hougan (200 IM), Ashley Castle (diving) and Marguerite Henderson (500 free) earned first place in their respective events.

Girls soccer

-- Savannah Hakes scored two goals in a nine-minute span in the first half to lift North Thurston to a 3-1 win over Shelton in 3A Narrows League girls soccer.

-- Black Hills kept its undefeated record alive in 2A Evergreen Conference play with one regular-season game remaining after its 4-0 win over River Ridge.
