Two people were found dead inside a Lakewood apartment early this morning after a fire destroyed at least one unit.

No information was immediately available about the two victims.

Neighbors called 911 just before 1 a.m. to report the fire at the Morning Tree Park apartments in the 8100 block of 83rd Ave. SW. Crews arrived within six minutes and found residents fleeing the building, West Pierce Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Hallie McCurdy said.

“They told us there’s a possibility there were two folks inside the unit on fire,” she said.

The blaze was knocked down about 1:25 a.m. The Red Cross is helping six people find temporary housing
