Please vote Tuesday, but don’t write in any fictitious names

The OlympianNovember 2, 2013

Tuesday is Election Day in Washington, and Thurston County voters have several important races to decide, including county auditor and port commissioner. If you haven’t yet cast your ballot, please do so today. Check out The Olympian’s recommendations for each position above, and in more detail on our website.

When you vote, do not write in fictitious names. The Thurston County auditor’s office receives thousands of misguided attempts at humor each year, with names like “Mickey Mouse” or “Tinkerbell.”

Writing in silly names slows down the reporting of election results, because these ballots take more time to process.

Please vote responsibly.

We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
