Crack down on road noise from motrocycles and cars

OlympiaNovember 2, 2013

In response to the recent letter from Sally Vogel concerning the noise produced by motorcycles with loud exhaust systems, I am in complete agreement. We do not need a statewide noise limit, however, as the law is already in place.

It reads “it is illegal to modify the exhaust system of any vehicle to make it produce more noise.” Simple, to the point, and so far largely unenforced.

To single out motorcycles for selective enforcement of the law is unfair. The most offensive vehicles in my neighborhood, by far, are the hot-rod cars with illegal aftermarket exhaust systems.

If it’s time to crack down on the issue of obnoxious noise, then let’s do it fairly and completely.
