Transient level 3 sex offender registers to live in Thurston County

The Thurston County Sheriff's Office is making a general notification regarding level 3 sex offender, David L. May, 59, who has registered as transient in Thurston County.

On April 29, 1976, May pleaded guilty in Polk County Iowa District Court to assault with intent to commit rape. He was sentenced to two years in jail, which was suspended on the condition he live at Fort Des Moines Men's Residential Facility until maximum benefits were received. On March 3, 1978, May's probation was revoked and he was sentenced to serve the two years in jail on the original charge. The conviction stems from May, at 22, assaulting a female with intent to commit rape.

May has a documented history of multiple violent offenses along with mental health issues which affect his ability to make safe decisions for himself and the community.

David L. May is described as a black male, 6 feet 2 inches and 180 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes.
