News reporting turned an error into a success

OlympiaNovember 7, 2013

I want to say “thank you!” to reporter Jeremy Pawloski and photographer Steve Bloom of The Olympian. Their coverage of the 20,000 misdirected UNICEF boxes definitely helped turn a mistake into a blessing. At the end of the week, we had placed approximately 7,200 boxes. A local citizen has offered appropriate storage for the remainder of the boxes for the winter.

It is my hope that South Sound educators will look forward to the fall of 2014 and plan to share with our students information on the economic, political and natural disasters that can put children around the world into peril. We should all be educated about refugees because it does intertwine with our lives and our futures.

It would be wonderful to see what this community can do to support Trick or Treat for UNICEF with proper time to prepare. The Olympian really helped this year with its nimble coverage.

The Olympian is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
