Prep for Black Friday with free workout class

November 17, 2013

A local exercise facility is offering a free workout class for people wanting to get in shape for Black Friday shopping.

Participants will do short shuttle runs to simulate quick dashes for bargains. They’ll do overhead presses to simulate removing boxes from high on shelves. And they’ll push weighted sleds to simulate pushing a loaded shopping cart.

“After the first of the year we get a lot of people with minor aches and pains,” said Amanda Serven of Tacoma’s Trident Athletics. “You have to think some of that has to do with the heavy lifting they do this time of year shopping and putting up Christmas decorations. We think we can help them by getting them into an exercise routine.”

The free Black Friday Boot Camp is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Trident Athletics, 5206 South Tacoma Way, Tacoma. To take part, register online at trident-athletics.com.

The gym has a history of creating themed workouts including a “Hunger Games” workout before last year’s movie release. Serven says the gym has yet to decide if it will have a “Hunger Games” workout again this year. The second movie in the series debuts Friday.
