Let the next generation have a voice on Olympia

OlympiaNovember 20, 2013

Why does The Olympian feel compelled to continue soliciting input from former Mayor Bob Jacobs on every single proposed development or land-use change in downtown Olympia? He hasn’t been mayor for almost 15 years.

Given all the press he and his followers have received over the years, isn’t it already crystal clear what they think about ____ (fill in the blank) proposed project.

Newsflash! They don’t want Olympia to change.

In the spirit of the Fairness Doctrine, maybe it’s time to give a voice to some younger people with a different perspective.

Perhaps the next time The Olympian needs a quote, it can reach out to someone from the younger generation who supports smart growth in downtown Olympia. Because some of us would actually like to have a denser urban core so future generations can enjoy a more environmentally and economically sustainable city and region.

The Olympian is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
