As I look over the hundreds of articles that I have written, I realize that I will no longer have this chance to regularly inform you, caution you, or nag you into protecting yourself and staying healthier.
Thank you for allowing me to serve you for the last 23 years. I look forward to continue being a part of this active, vibrant, wonderful community.
One of the main responsibilities of public health is keeping people informed so that they can make the appropriate decisions for their health. So I will leave you with a list of things to think about, things that you can do to stay healthy. Cut this article out and look at it periodically, imagine my smiling face asking you to take care of yourself, protect your family and your community. You are the PUBLIC in public health. You have the power to make a difference in your life and the life of others. From this day forward ...
Be prepared for emergencies.
Wear your seatbelt.
Enjoy driving, and dont be distracted by talking or texting on the phone.
Get a full nights sleep.
Have fun. Laughter is the best medicine.
Be more physically active.
Eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
Cut down on drinking, smoking or taking drugs.
Move more walk, climb stairs, pick things up.
Use a helmet when you ride a bike or motorbike.
Be a mentor.
Set an example for your kids.
Have safer sex.
Update your vaccinations and get flu shots.
Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
Get an annual physical and dental check-up.
Play with your kids, talk to your kids, dine with your family.
Spend time with family and friends.
Make sure you have me time. Relax.
Help protect the earth and our environment.
Go out and meet new friends.
Be part of the community.
Give to our community.
