A Yelm-area man is in custody after he called police to tell them he had just shot someone in the leg.

Thurston County deputies and Yelm Police officers responded to the 19800 block of 146th at 10:26 p.m. Monday for a report of a gunshot.  They found a 41-year-old man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The 61-year-old caller told police that he and a woman were at the residence when the shooting victim came in and "started pestering" the woman. The caller said he told the victim to leave or he would shoot him.

When the victim refused to leave, the caller shot him.

The victim underwent surgery at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.

The caller was booked into the Thurston County Jail on one count of first-degree assault.
