AP All-state prep football teams: T-Birds crowd 2A ranks

After playing in their second consecutive Class 2A state football title game, six Tumwater Thunderbirds were recognized on The Associated Press all-state teams, as voted on by sports writers and editors from newspapers statewide, including The Olympian.

Evergreen Conference MVP Christian Cummings (running back) and fellow seniors Nick Foerstel (defensive line), Korye Trejo (offensive line) and Gabe Gleizes (defensive back) were on the 2A first team with junior punter Elijah Hill. Junior linebacker Addison Barrett was on the second team.

The six were among 14 South Sound honorees.

W.F. West seniors Tanner Gueller (quarterback) and Bryan Moon (receiver) were on the 2A second team with Black Hills senior Zach Grate, the EvCo’s co-defensive MVP.

Mitch Fettig, Olympia’s senior two-way player, was a Class 4A first-team selection at defensive back. Timberline seniors Jeff Winstead (defensive back) and Brennon Kaleiwahea (linebacker) were Class 3A second-team picks, as was North Thurston senior Jake Grantham at offensive line.

Elma senior linebacker Ricky Escalante was a first-team pick in Class 1A.

Bellevue senior all-purpose star Budda Baker was the all-classifications player of the year.
