Yelm man injured on I-5 after steel debris hits car windshield

Staff writerDecember 29, 2013

A 23-year-old Yelm man was injured on Intestate 5 Saturday afternoon after steel debris crashed through his car windshield and hit him in the head.

According to the Washington State Patrol:

About 2:50 p.m. Saturday, Richard S. Gagnon, 23, of Yelm, was southbound on Interstate 5 near DuPont when "debris came through the windshield and struck driver in the head."

Gagnon was later taken to Tacoma General Hospital.

Trooper Guy Gill said Sunday that Gagnon was treated for a deep laceration on his forehead.

"We believe the debris was run over and sent airborne by another vehicle," Gill said in a tweet on Sunday. "It was not thrown from an overpass."
