Lacey man dies after crashing into tree on Pacific Avenue

Olympia police report that a 21-year-old Lacey man died early Wednesday after his pickup truck crashed into a tree.

About 1:15 a.m. Jan. 1, police responded to the scene of an accident in the 2700 block of Pacific Avenue. The truck was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the road and hit a tree, according to police. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The Thurston County Coroner's office identified the deceased driver as Alex Petermann.

Accident investigators believe the truck was traveling between 60 mph and 100 mph when it left the road, according to police.

Police are investigating the incident, and it is unknown whether alcohol was involved.
