Seattle’s tunnel troubles similar to Olympia event

OlympiaJanuary 11, 2014

Seattle’s problem with Bertha brings to mind a similar event in Olympia about 10 years ago. It was time for the big used book sale at the downtown Olympia Timberland Regional Library, attended by more than 100 people. The bathrooms were all out of order, presumably because someone purposely — or not — blocked up the sewer. When the longest roto rooter that could be found came back with wood shavings, it was found that the new telephone pole at the corner of Nineth Avenue and Franklin Street had been dug through the sewer line, thereby plugging it.

The Olympian is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
