South Sound Highlights: Games of Jan. 15

Mitch Fettig tallied 16 points, and Olympia snapped Central Kitsap’s two-game winning streak with a 61-54 home victory. Khalil Matheney added 13 points and Ben Bishop 10 for the Bears (8-5, 1-5 4A Narrows), who crawled out of the league cellar.

Yelm’s Elijah Fuller scorched defending 4A Narrows champion Bellarmine Prep for 29 points, and his late free throws sealed a 59-56 home victory. Christian Davis added 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Tornados (8-5, 3-3).

Donaven Dorsey paced Timberline with 16 points, and the Blazers upended host North Thurston, 45-42, in 3A Narrows action in Lacey. Timberline (7-5, 3-2) remained in third place in the league standings.

Round 1 for girls basketball bragging rights in Lacey went to Timberline, which overwhelmed host North Thurston, 59-23, behind a triple-double from Callan Russell (14 points, 11 steals, 10 rebounds). The Blazers (6-6, 4-1 3A Narrows), who shot 49 percent from the floor, remained tied for second place behind Wilson in league. The Rams dropped to 6-6 overall, 3-3 in league.

Tiffani Ferrell poured in 16 points, and host Central Kitsap bolted out to a big lead early before holding off Olympia, 59-52, in 4A Narrows action in Silverdale. The Cougars (10-3, 4-2), who broke out to a 23-11 first-quarter advantage, remained in second place behind Bellarmine Prep while the Bears fell to fourth. Laura Snodgrass led Olympia (4-9, 3-3) with 15 points.
