The Washington State Department of Commerce announced that Tumwater will receive a $50,000 grant to explore redevelopment opportunities at the historic Olympia Brewery site.
The Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) grant is matched by more than $16,000 from the Department of Ecology.
The brewery closed in 2003 after nearly 100 years of making beer.
The CERB grant money will allow Tumwater to explore development possibilities, including public amenities such as a trail network or a boardwalk.
“This grant provides us the opportunity to review possible public-private partnerships,” said Michael Matthias, project manager for the Thurston Economic Development Council. “Redevelopment of that property is going to involve substantial investment in infrastructure up front.”firstname.lastname@example.org
