Use impact fees to pay for education fairly

OlympiaJanuary 24, 2014

The Olympia City Council is being asked to support the Olympia School District’s technology and capital projects levy. Funding education is important and one of the ways to pay for new improvements is to take advantage of the legal state option of impact fees on new construction.

School boards must use the proper formulas to calculate impact fees on new construction. That way new growth will be charged accordingly, and current residents will not be charged unfairly.

The Olympian is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
