Find out about foster care at free event

OlympianJanuary 28, 2014

Community Youth Services Foster Care Program will sponsor a free event from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the Hands on Children’s Museum in downtown Olympia. There will be information for people who are interested in how the foster care system works, how to help and why foster care families are in high demand.

Currently Washington State has 10,000-12,000 foster kids that are in need of a stable, safe and nurturing home, but only has about 6,000 homes available.  Community Youth Services is looking to add 6-10 homes to their Therapeutic Foster Care Program in Thurston, Lewis, Mason and Grays Harbor counties. The evening consists of information and fun events that will explore the different ways to help, such as donating use of a room in a church or business, or providing occasional respite care.

Organizers request an email to get free tickets, so supplies and staffing are well organized. Register free at FosterCare@CommunityYouthServices.org or call 360-943-0780.

The Olympian is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
