Heroin addict’s mother urges treatment funding

OlympiaJanuary 29, 2014

Jeremy Pawloski’s articles about heroin use in Thurston County really hit home with me. Our community is so fortunate to have dedicated people like Chris Johnson, Ellen Goodman, Judge Strophy (now retired) and countless others in our community who work on this problem every day.

I know this because my daughter has been a heroin addict for 17 years. The addiction is indeed a full-time job, as Jennifer West stated. It is heart-wrenching to see a loved one forsake their friends, families, and most of all, themselves, to drugs.

It is a difficult problem, but not without a solution. I hope funding for drug abuse treatment programs will not continue to decrease as it has the past four years, but increase to curb this horrendous epidemic.
