Horizons Elementary School in Lacey was locked down for about an hour on Wednesday due to police activity in the area, according to North Thurston Public Schools spokeswoman Courtney Schrieve.

At about 12:30 p.m., Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to an interrupted burglary off Old Highway 99 south of Tumwater, according to Lt. Greg Elwin.

The suspects fled in a vehicle that was later seen near Rich Road Southeast and Fir Tree Road Southeast, he said.

A canine unit tracked the suspects into woods in the area and the pursuit ended up near the school, Elwin said.

Deputies were still in the area at about 2:15 p.m. searching for the suspects, he said.

The school was under a modified lockdown meaning that its external doors were locked.
