3A/2A district bowling: River Ridge's Bittner qualifies for state

VANCOUVER – River Ridge’s Rachel Bittner rolled a 592 series at Friday’s 3A/2A District IV bowling championships to earn a state berth at next week’s state bowling tournament, which is Feb. 7-8 at Narrows Plaza Bowl in University Place.

Bittner, who rolled a 212-202-178 over three games at Vancouver’s Crosley Lanes, is South Sound’s only state qualifier.

Columbia River (3,915 pins) won the district team title. The top three teams and top six individuals not on state-bound teams advance to state. Rounding out the state-bound teams were Fort Vancouver (3,816) and R.A. Long (3,741). Black Hills, led by Alex Putzer’s 482, finished seventh, followed by Capital (2,042) and River Ridge (1,956). Capital, in its first year of girls bowling, was led by Sammy Williamson’s 467.

Mark Morris’ Caitlyn Heltmes (637) won the individual title.
