I am apalled after reading the article in this morning’s paper (Jan. 31) that Judge James Dixon is allowing Shaun Goodman, who was arrested following a 100-mph police chase through downtown Olympia and registering a blood alcohol level of twice the legal limit, to attend the Super Bowl.
What kind of message does that give the community about how seriously we take drunken driving laws and endangering the public’s safety? Whatever happened to the idea of “natural consequences” for a person’s behaviors and actions? The natural consequence for this crime is that a person loses the priveleges of any upcoming events they may have been looking forward to, due to their arrest.
This judge should be admonished for taking drunken driving laws and crimes so lightly for our community. Driving under the influence is a serious, life-endangering behavior and crime. How many people have to die for this behavior to be taken seriously by this judge?
