Tumwater holds off Capital, faces River Ridge next

After watching their 12-point lead dwindle to as few as five points in the final minutes, the Tumwater Thunderbirds held on for a 57-49 consolation victory over Capital in the Class 2A District IV boys basketball tournament at W.F. West High School in Chehalis.

The T-Birds (11-12), who have won two straight since losing their district opener to Mark Morris, will face 2A Evergreen Conference rival River Ridge at 7:45 p.m. Saturday at Capital High in a winner-to-regional, loser-out game.

Tumwater junior David Cooper led all scorers with 22 points, Zach Delucco added 15, and Josiah Warner scored 12. Jacob Pratt and Ty Gentry had 13 points apiece for Capital, which finished the season 7-16.

River Ridge 83, Centralia 77: The Hawks torched the 2A EvCo regular-season champion Tigers for 50 first-half points on their way to a consolation victory in the 2A District IV tournament.

Jason Kananin had a game-high 31 points, including eight 3-pointers, to lead River Ridge.
