An Intercity Transit bus driver was assaulted Tuesday afternoon.

About 2 p.m., Olympia Police responded to a reported assault on a bus driver. The bus driver was driving a route on the west side of Olympia when he and a rider began to argue. The bus driver stopped the bus and asked the rider to leave. The rider hit the driver several times in the face and then fled, according to a news release.

The suspect was discovered at the IT transit center downtown almost two hours later. IT employees recognized the suspect after viewing photos from the original incident and notified police. He was arrested and taken to the Olympia City Jail on charges of third degree assault.
