Former Olympia and Capital High School quarterback Derrick Becker signed a letter of intent to play football at Simon Fraser University, he announced on Twitter Wednesday.

Becker, who now attends high school in Hawai'i, played his senior season last fall at Olympia after transferring from Capital. He completed 65 percent of his passes for 1,886 yards and 23 touchdowns (a school record) this fall. He also rushed for 518 yards and two touchdowns, on his way to earning 4A Narrows offensive MVP honors.

As Capital's starting quarterback as a sophomore and junior, he led the Cougars to the state 3A quarterfinals and 2A semifinals in 2011 and '12, respectively.

Simon Fraser, located in Burnaby, B.C., near Vancouver, is an NCAA Div. II program and a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Clan went 3-7 this past fall.
