Memorial for Joe Dear to be held April 5

A service date has been set for former state official Joe Dear, who died of prostate cancer Feb. 26.

A celebration of life is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at The Evergreen State College Library. A reception will follow on the fourth floor of the library.

When he died, Dear was the chief investment officer of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System. Dear previously served as the research director of the Washington State Labor Council, director of the Washington Department of Labor and Industries, assistant secretary at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, chief of staff to Gov. Gary Locke and the executive director of the Washington State Investment Board.
