A 25-year-old Lacey resident was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital Saturday night after he was hit by two cars while trying to cross Martin Way between Desmond Drive and the Lacey Regal Cinemas.

The man currently is in critical condition at the hospital, Lacey Police Officer Dave Johansen said about 1:40 p.m. Sunday.

According to Johansen:

About 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Lacey Police units responded to the cars vs. pedestrian accident at the 5400 block of Martin Way E.

The man, who was wearing dark clothes and who did not cross at an intersection or a crosswalk, was hit and knocked down by an eastbound vehicle. He also was hit by a second eastbound vehicle.

Both vehicles remained at the scene, Johansen said. Drugs and alcohol have been ruled out for both drivers, he said, although police are investigating whether the man who crossed the street was inebriated.

Martin Way was closed for several hours Saturday night, finally reopening to traffic about 1 a.m. Sunday, Johansen said. During the investigation, traffic was diverted through the Martin Way Village parking lot.
