McKenny Elementary School principal Brendon Chertok has been hired as the new principal at Garfield Elementary School on Olympia’s west side.

He will replace principal Bob Hodges who will retire after the 2014-15 school year. Hodges plans to lead the school half-time with Chertok for a year to make the transition easier. Chertok will assist district administrators on some projects, as well.

“Garfield is an excellent school,” Chertok said. “I know this from my work in the district, but also as a parent of two boys who attended Garfield.”

Chertok began his teaching career in Lacey in 1994, and joined the Olympia School District in 1997. He has been principal at McKenny since 2006.
