Hospice volunteer training being offered in Olympia

OlympianMarch 19, 2014

Providence SoundHomeCare and Hospice will be offering a hospice volunteer training for community members.

Volunteers will have an opportunity to enrich the lives of terminally ill patients while helping them retain their independence and quality of life while they are dying.

Volunteers may provide support to families, caregivers, and patients by offering respite for a caregiver, companionship and support for a patient who is alone, assisting with errands, being a compassionate listener, reading or sharing artistic skills.

The training takes place over two full days and four afternoons from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., on  April 18 and May 16; from noon-5 p.m., on April 23, April 30, and May 7; and from noon-6 p.m., on May 14.

All sessions will be at Providence SoundHomeCare and Hospice in Olympia.

Commitment to the program for one year is asked, and registration is required. To receive an application and to register for training, call 360-493-4689 or 800-869-7062.
