Ultimate green technology: Synchronized traffic signals

LaceyMarch 21, 2014

I’m asking the Legislature: Please don’t saddle us with (still another) tax increase or a complicated greenhouse-gas reduction scheme. Try synchronized traffic lights first and post the green-light speed. Suddenly, every vehicle would becomes a hybrid as its kinetic energy momentum is conserved at each new green light. Roads would become safer as drivers realize that speeding is penalized with a red light and the orderly signal phasing ensures regular gaps in traffic to allow safer crossing and merging between intersections.

Here is an answer to our state’s miserable traffic that can also reduce emissions and wasted fuel by an enormous amount. Can we start this spring? I suggest trying it out on Canyon Road and Pacific Avenue and a lot of other congested four-lane roads.
