Library offers kids' workshops for Arts Walk

With Spring Arts Walk around the corner, the Olympia branch of Timberland Library is kicking off the preparations with visual and performing arts workshops for younger kids and teens, with the results being presented at the library on April 25. All of the workshops are free and sponsored by the Friends of the Olympia Timberland Library, although registration is required. To register for any of the workshops, call 360-352-0595, or stop by the library's youth services desk.

The workshops are:

Hands-On cameraless film animation for teens in grades 6-12, from noon-4 p.m. April 5, at the Olympia Timberland Library, 313 Eighth Ave SE. Using markers, paint, scratch, and other techniques not recommended by any manufacturere, teens will make images on 16mm film leaders and project them on 16mm projectors. Registration is in progress.

Tinkertopia Recycled Art Workshop, for kids in grades K-5, from 2-4 p.m., April 9, at the Olympia Timberland Library, 313 Eighth Ave SE. Join library staff during spring break for some “tinker-time” to create, explore unique materials, and generally get lost in the process of imaginative inspiration. Children will be introduced to the green aspect of recycled materials and their role as reuse artists.  Registration begins on March 26.

Jusby's Crash Course Clown Camp for ages 7-17, from 3-5 p.m., April 12 & 19, 3-5 p.m., and from 5-6 p.m., April 25, at The Olympia Timberland Library, 313 Eighth Ave. SE. Learn the basics of clowning from a professional clown-educator.  Registration begins on March 29.

Family Arts Walk Stop at the Library, for all ages, from 5-7 p.m., April 25. View art created by local youth, adults and families, catch a music performance, and watch animated films created by teens.

6:00 p.m.- Sambalincolnwa percussion performance

6:30 p.m.- Hands on Cameraless Film Animation by teens
