Nate Grygorcewicz has been hired as the new principal at Horizons Elementary School in Lacey.

He has served as principal at Edison Elementary School in Centralia for the past year, and was previously an assistant principal at Komachin Middle School in Lacey for three years.

“I am excited about the wonderful opportunity to be the principal at Horizons Elementary,” said Grygorcewicz, 37. “Horizons is a very successful school with a great staff and parental involvement. I am fortunate to be part of such a great school.”

He has a bachelor’s degree in history from Pacific Lutheran University and a master’s degree in administration from Heritage University. He also taught and coached in Tenino, Shelton and Tumwater schools, according to an announcement posted on the North Thurston Public Schools website.

Grygorcewicz said he and his wife, Courtney, have two children, ages 5 and 8.

He plans to finish the school year at Edison before he takes over at Horizons.

Grygorcewicz replaces principal Tim Fries, who submitted his resignation on Nov. 20 and is on paid leave through the end of the school year. He left to assist with the care of a family member, according to the Horizons newsletter.
