Subway is coming to a longtime vacancy at 4055 Martin Way E.

A Subway sandwich restaurant is filling a longtime vacancy in Olympia at Martin Way East and Sleater-Kinney Road.

That corner location used to be home to Sunshine Deli Mart and a Shell gasoline station, but it closed after a fire in 2010.

Pam Fant, a permit specialist supervisor with Olympia's community planning and development department, said the city issued building permits in 2010 to make repairs to the fire-damaged building.

The underground gasoline tanks were removed in 2012, she added.

Once Subway opens, it will be the second prominent sandwich business in the area.

Jimmy John's, the quick-delivery sandwich chain, has opened a location on Martin Way in front of the Ramada Olympia Hotel.
