Olympia parking garage issue is raised once again

OlympiaMarch 29, 2014

Parking downtown is slowly becoming more of a challenge. The city of Olympia has been slowly eliminating parking spaces through enhancements to sidewalks and pedestrian crossings that I believe are truly important. As well, public transit, while being a great resource, is not always convenient.

But now that we have learned that we will lose the city parking lot on Columbia Street between Fourth Avenue and Fifth Avenue to a new building project, I would like to suggest that the city purchase the lot behind the now sold Department of Personnel building as part of the supporting infrastructure in the downtown core. This lot is a great resource for people who attend evening and weekend events downtown.

This parking lot would be better enhanced as a multistory parking garage and will truly be needed in the near future.

The Olympian is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
