Drug-free zones push the problem elsewhere

OlympiaApril 1, 2014

Can the Olympia City Council be serious? Establishing drug-free zones means the rest of Olympa is fair game for those who wish to continue committing felonies in public by shooting up with their drugs.

I notice the drug-free zones do not include areas around shopping, restaurants, senior centers, parking lots or anywhere else law-abiding citizens would otherwise shop, eat or live. Add the proposed no/low-barrier shelter into the mix, and you have given permission for the low-lifes to take over downtown.

One additional foot-patrol and a narcotics detective will not make a difference.

The Olympian is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
