Plan to reduce our poor, not lay blame on them

OlympiaApril 5, 2014

The March 28 issue of The Week magazine included two issues about the hopes of the Republicans to blackmail their way to find winners in 2016. On the list is the GOP problem of avoiding being identified as having a strong racist component that is willing to live with things as they are.

That leads to the notion that the unemployment and poverty issues and due to a “culture” of people who are not willing to work and/or who are satisfied to exist on only what is handed out by the government. That sounds like remarks made by GOP policy wonk, Paul Ryan.

It is interesting that in the same issue there is a comment that Brazil “has reduced the number of its citizens living in extreme poverty by 89 percent in just one decade.”

That plan may have some problems, but a lot of people will eat better this evening.
