National Arbor Day Foundation names Lacey a Tree City USA

Staff writerApril 7, 2014

For the 23rd consecutive year, the city of Lacey has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

In honor of Arbor Month, the city is set to have its annual seedling giveaway at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Huntamer Park in Woodland Square Loop.

Species include Colorado Blue Spruce, Eastern Redbud and Scarlet Oak. Seedlings are limited to one per person.

More than $3 million and nearly 26,000 free tree seedlings have been spent and distributed by the community since the city first received the Tree City USA designation 23 years ago.
