Boston Harbor Elementary School Principal Michael Havens is getting a new job.
Make that the same job, but a different location.
Havens, who has led the nearly 150-student school in the Olympia School District since 2008, has been named principal of Margaret McKenny Elementary School effective July 1.
McKenny serves about 350 students in grades preschool through five and is in the southeast corner of the district.
“It’s a bit of a homecoming for me as my daughter attended preschool, kindergarten and first grade there,” Havens said in a news release.
In addition to working at Boston Harbor, he has worked part time as the school district’s professional development coordinator.
“The principal duties have always been the best part of my job, and I look forward to being able to do that full time,” he said.
Havens replaces Brendon Chertok, who has been hired as principal at Garfield Elementary School on Olympia’s west side. Chertok is replacing Bob Hodges, who is set to retire in 2015.
“Michael is a great fit for McKenny students, families and staff,” Superintendent Dick Cvitanich said in a news release. “He clearly has a passion for children and the ability to work collaboratively with staff to create systems for student success.”
Havens has a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Washington, a master’s degree in teaching from Seattle University and a principal certificate from Seattle Pacific University.
He has worked in the Olympia School District since 1997.Lisa Pemberton: 360-754-5433 email@example.com @Lisa_Pemberton
