Gas prices are rising quickly with increases of nearly 8 cents a gallon in the past week. Those average prices are up 20 cents a gallon in the past month.
Gas prices nationally are the highest in eight months as stockpiles shrink amid increasing demand.
The average price for a gallon of unleaded regular in the Olympia area Tuesday was $3.81, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report. The lowest price on Tuesday was $3.64 a gallon at the Steamboat Trading Post, 6610 Sexton Drive NW.
The average price for a gallon of unleaded regular in the Tacoma area Tuesday was also at $3.81.
Though federal energy officials say gas prices in the summer will be lower nationwide this year than last, prices here now exceed the national average by about 20 cents a gallon.
Present average prices locally are about 18 cents more than they were here last year at this time.Bloomerg News contributed to this report.
