UPDATE: A fire destroyed a home in the 7600 block of Bordeaux Road near the edge of Capitol Forest Wednesday, a spokeswoman from the West Thurston Regional Fire Authority said.
No one was inside the home at the time the fire was called in by a neighbor who saw a thick column of smoke, West Thurston Regional Fire Authority spokeswoman Lt. Lanette Dyer said.
Firefighters responded about 4:45 p.m.
The cause of the fire is unknown, Dyer added. The secluded home may have been burning for some time before the neighbor happened to see the fire by "pure luck" and called emergency responders.
By the time firefighters arrived, the fire was already fully-involved, and they had to take defensive positions, Dyer said. Dyer said she believes the home was between 1,800 and 2,500 square feet.
"There is absolutely nothing left of it," she said.
The home was owner-occupied, and Dyer said Wednesday evening she was waiting for the homeowner to return so that individual could be interviewed. Dyer said she was trying to confirm whether cats that lived in the home were inside at the time and perished in the blaze.
