GET tuition program a long-term investment

OlympiaMay 3, 2014

While the GET program can be a good investment, there is a significant caveat left out by both The Olympian editorial board in it’s opinion piece April 20, and in advertising by the GET program. It is deceptive advertising to make the pitch “pay today’s tuition cost for tomorrow’s college expense.” A more accurate and fair description would be to claim “pay today’s tuition cost plus 20 percent for tomorrows college expense.” The actual premium percentage may be different at this point, probably higher, but that is what it was in 2006.

Parents should not invest in this program if their child will be attending college the next several years, or they will lose money. If you put the money in 10 or 15 years before it is needed, you may get a great return.
