Ed Swan will talk about the changes in habitat around Puget Sound during a free presentation at Thursday’s meeting of the Blackhills Audubon Society.
Swan, a nature writer and guide, will talk about the habitat change that has take place over time in Puget Sound. The region has experienced several waves of change that produced large alterations in birds. He will take a step-by-step look at those changes to show how habitat is a key factor in changes to birds when big change occurs.
He also will discuss the extent of these changes and how wide-ranging their effects have been. He will use Vashon Island as an example while discussing how citizen science and action can have an impact in favor of conservation.
The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a social hour, with the program starting at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be at First Christian Church, 701 Franklin St. SE., Olympia.
