The Olympia Reign opens its seventh season in the International Basketball League on the road Friday against the Bellingham Slam, followed by their home opener Saturday against the Slam at 7 p.m. at the South Sound Sports Center, 7960 Center St. SW in Tumwater.

The Reign will be coached by former NBA player Vladimir Stepania – a first-round pick by the Seattle SuperSonics in 1998. He played two seasons for the Sonics and lasted in the NBA until 2004.

The Reign’s 11-player roster features Nate Menefee, Marcus Whittaker, Giovanne Woods and Virgil Matthews. All were with the Reign in 2013.

The Reign plays four home games on its seven-game abbreviated schedule. In addition to Saturday’s 7 p.m. home game against Bellingham are home games May 23 against the Vancouver Volcanoes, June 20 against the Salem Sabres and June 21 against the Portland Chinooks in the Reign’s season finale.

Rain postponed the first day of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference baseball tournament Thursday in Monmouth, Oregon, where Saint Martin’s was scheduled to face top-seeded Western Oregon in the day’s first game.

All of Thursday’s originally scheduled games were moved to Friday; Saint Martin’s and Western Oregon will play at 10 a.m. Friday to begin the round-robin tournament, followed by a 1 p.m. game with Central Washington. The tournament will conclude Saturday starting at noon.
