Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll confirmed Friday that left tackle Russell Okung, who was bothered by a toe injury that caused him to miss eight games last season, had offseason foot surgery and is not participating in voluntary workouts.

Okung likely will be back by training camp, Carroll said.

“He’s coming back from foot surgery, so he’s not working with us,” Carroll said. “He’s conditioning as he can right now. It’s going to be a while before we get him back. It’s going to be probably about camp time. It’s stuff that needed to be done.

“Russell will be fine, and it’s just something we had to do when the season was over. He had a few things, so we’ve taken care of it. We know we’ll have him back for training camp. Maybe a little sooner than that.”

Okung was seen in a walking boot during Oklahoma State’s spring game April 7, first indicating he had a procedure done after the season.

Second-year lineman Alvin Bailey will work at left tackle until Okung returns.

The Seahawks selected Okung with the sixth overall pick in 2010. He has yet to play 16 games in a season and has missed 19 games in four seasons.
