Only fair to license bicycles for revenue

OlympiaMay 12, 2014

This is a letter about fairness. Since road repairs continue to fall behind, there isn’t enough money to educate children, and to a degree global warming so Washington must find new sources of revenue.

There is a group of citizens in the state that are not paying their fair share to assist areas that have funding shortfalls. The time is now to start a license fee for bicycles. It is only fair. State and local governments need funds. All bicycle owners should be required to license their bikes every year.

This money could then be used for road repairs and other items. The state already has a computer system for tracking licensing of vehicles and it wouldn’t take much to modify the system to include bicycles. Most riders would be happy to assist in funding improvements to bike lanes and the roads.
