South Sound candidates begin filing for county, state offices

More than two dozen people filed for public office by noon on Monday.

There are 28 elected positions up for grabs this year, including eight Thurston County offices, nine state legislative positions, eight judicial seats, two public utility district positions and the 10th Congressional District. Friday is the last day for candidates to file.

Here were the early filings with the Thurston County Auditor’s Office

Congressional District No. 10 (Mason/Pierce/Thurston) U.S. Representative: Joyce McDonald, Puyallup, prefers Republican Party and Denny Heck, Olympia, prefers Democratic Party.

2nd Legislative District, State Representative Pos. 1: Graham Hunt, Orting, prefers Republican Party.

20th Legislative District, State Representative Pos. 2: Ed Orcutt, Kalama, prefers Republican Party.

22nd Legislative District, State Representative Pos. 1: Steve Owens, Olympia, prefers Republican Party.

22nd Legislative District, State Representative Pos. 2: Sam Hunt, Olympia, prefers Democratic Party.

35th Legislative District, State Senator: Irene Bowling, Belfair, prefers Democratic Party.

35th Legislative District, State Representative Pos. 1: Kathy Haigh, Shelton, prefers Democratic Party.

Thurston County Assessor: Steven J. Drew, Olympia, prefers Democratic Party.  

Thurston CountyAuditor: Mary Hall, Lacey, prefers Democratic Party.

Thurston County Clerk: Linda Enlow, Olympia, prefers Democratic Party; Yvonne L. Pettus, Lacey (prefers Democratic Party).

Thurston County Commissioner No. 3: Karen Valenzuela, Olympia, prefers Democratic Party.

Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney: Jon Tunheim, Olympia, prefers Democratic Party.

Thurston County Sheriff: John Snaza, Tumwater, prefers Independent Party.

Thurston County Treasurer: Shawn D. Myers, Tumwater, prefers Democratic Party.

District Court Judge #1 nonpartisan: Kalo Wilcox, Olympia.

District Court Judge #2 nonpartisan: Sam Meyer, Olympia.

District Court Judge #3 nonpartisan: Brett Buckley, Olympia.

Supreme Court Justice Position 3 nonpartisan: Mary E. Fairhurst, Tumwater.

Supreme Court Justice Position 4 nonpartisan: Eddie Yoon, University Place; Charles W. Johnson, Olympia.

Supreme Court Justice Position 7 nonpartisan: Debra L. Stephens, Seattle.

Court of Appeals, Division 2, District 2 (Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, Thurston counties) Judge Position 1 nonpartisan: Lisa L. Sutton, Olympia.
