Fundraiser Calendar for May 13

Little Red Schoolhouse Fundraising BarbeCue runs from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Olympia Lacey Church of God, 5005 Lacey Blvd. SE, Olympia. The money raised will provide students with school supplies, backpacks and back-to-school clothing. Eat in or take out a Marv’s Marvlus Bar-B-Q pulled-pork sandwich, coleslaw, baked beans and a beverage. Cost is $10. Attendees can enjoy live music, dessert, and a raffle of cruises, Mariners tickets and baskets. Tickets can be purchased at redschool.org, the Olympia Lacey Church of God, or at the door. If you can’t attend, a $13.91 donation will buy a backpack, school supplies, socks and underwear for one child. Donations can be sent to PO Box 6302, Olympia, WA 98507.

Wishes for Whiskers Covenant Creatures Companion Animal program plans an auction and entertainment at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Heritage Room, 604 Water St. SW, Olympia. Enjoy a cocktail hour from 5-6 p.m., with a catered dinner at 6:30 p.m. The evening also will feature a family-friendly comedy show, and a live silent auction. Tickets are $40, and can be purchased through brownpapertickets.com. Call 360-357-6301 for details.

Run for Rett 5k run, 3k walk and kids dash The Run for Rett supports the Northwest Rett Syndrome Foundation. It starts at 9 a.m. June 7 at Tumwater Historical Park, 777 Simmons Road SW, Olympia. Parking is limited, so carpooling is advised. Register at active.com/tumwater-wa/running/distance-running-races/run-for-rett-5k-run-3k-walk-and-kids-dash-2014 before June 4.

The Family Support Center of South Sound expects to open a 24-hour-a-day shelter July 1. However, the nonprofit group needs money to buy furnishings, including bunk beds, kitchenware and bath supplies. The project is converting the Smith Building at 837 Seventh Ave. SE, Olympia, from a vacant office building to six emergency shelter units, and seven permanent, affordable housing units for families with children, with on-site support services. People and businesses can contribute by purchasing the right to engrave their names and business logos on 600 bricks in the shelter entryway. The cost is $100 per person and $300 per business.
